Get out of your own way and create what you desire. You are the biggest obstacle in your way in getting what you want. You are the one in the drivers seat of your life and are in choice of what happens and what does not. Yet many just allow things to happen and then are upset, unhappy or left out. The holiday season just seems to magnify those feelings of stress, isolation and frustration. Then you allow yourself to go down that bumpy road and blame everything or everyone else for it but yourself.
Then the holiday season seems to be filled with unrealistic expectations, stress and little random bits of joy Every year you set out to make the holidays the best that you can and try to create those memories that you want. Then you get busy planning, booking and strategizing. Yet you don’t take control of your experience.
You can blame finances, traffic, over crowding and others for things that go wrong each year. “If only Aunt Sally had not cooked the meal at her house that year, we would have all gotten along.” “My sister always tries to upset me on purpose.” “I could never do enough to please my Father.” “I would have more money if I did not have to buy all of those gifts.” You can make anything the fault of someone or something else.
The biggest obstacle in your way for a wonderful holiday season is YOU. That is right, you. Not the crowded airports, your boss, your Uncle or anything else. Just you.
Do you do things out of obligation and then feel resentful or do you do things out of joy and play full out? When things don’t go your way or you get upset, how do you take care of yourself? Do you blame others or change things so that they get better?
It is easy to become unconscious and not be present with yourself. Yet if you stay present and take responsibility for your happiness and experience, you will have a much better holiday season.

When you encounter something that might upset you, choose to not let it. Have realistic expectations of what will happen during the holiday season and then set out to create it. If you want more connection, then make plans to have it. If you want more joy, find ways to create it. It is up to you to create the holiday experience you desire.
This holiday season choose how you want to spend it and how you want to experience it. Get out of your own way and create what you desire.
