One of Those Days

Have you ever had one of those days that started out with challenges?

Last night I had made a mason jar of Holy Basil Tea. It was a jar filled with a 1/4 cup of dried tea leaves that I poured hot water over and sealed. According to the directions I was to strain it the next morning and then filter it again to get all the bits and pieces out. Then I was to chill it and drink it over the next two days in small amounts. According to the herbalist it has a lot of benefits for the human body.

So it all began with me not getting much sleep last night and strange dreams. I gave up before 5am and deciFrustrated woman pullinh ger hairded to make some fresh apple cinnamon oatmeal. I suppose I was still asleep because I first forgot to peel the apple as I chopped it into small bits. Then I added that to the water, cinnamon and a touch of salt to boil. After the water came to boil, I added what I thought was quick cooking gluten oats. Instead it was long cooking steel oats. My stomach was rumbling. After I added the oats I added salt forgetting I had already done that. Praying that it would turn out well, I turned my attention to the straining of the tea as I was gulping down my second cup of coffee.

teaI was pouring the tea into the jar for the third strain, everything slipped from my hands and spilled all over the counter, my nightgown and the floor. At the same time the oatmeal began to overboil. Dripping wet, I turned off the oatmeal and tasted it. Not fully cooked, out of liquid and quite salty. A lost cause. My kitchen was covered in tea and tea leaves as was I. As I stood there dripping I made a decision. Let this be a sign how the rest of the day would become or choose to start again.

I quickly cleaned up my kitchen counters, the stove and the floor. As I was doing this, I was thinking of how this was just a rough start and noticed the sweet smell of the Holy Basil Tea. It had a very sweet and unique scent. In that moment I remembered that I am indeed in charge of how my day goes.

As the day progressed there were some wonderful moments and also some challenges as most days go. Yet when I returned home after being out most of the morning and early afternoon, I noticed the house still smelled like the tea. So I made another jar that I will attempt to strain tomorrow. This time I will make sure that I am fully awake and present before attempting to strain the tea in the morning!
